Charles River's Discovery site in Portishead is located in a bustling marina town overlooking the Severn estuary, approximately 12km west of Bristol, in the scenic county of North Somerset, in the UK.

Prior to joining Charles River in 2018, this site was the primary location for KWS BioTest, a contract research organization (CRO) focused on testing services for immuno-oncology, inflammatory and infectious diseases.

We have evolved our offering to now provide drug discovery services to a range of partners across the therapeutic areas of immunology, immuno-oncology, auto-immunity, inflammation, neuro-inflammation, microbiome and bacterial/viral infection. With a spotlight on the role of the immune system in disease and a strong translational focus, our support spans preclinical development from early complex cell biology through efficacy models to clinical sample analysis. We have a broad range of technical expertise, covering both complex model systems as well as data rich, in vitro analysis and assays covering antibody, cell therapy and gene therapy modalities, utilising primary human cells and cell lines.

With our focus on immunology and its impact on disease, we take pride in solving complex immunology and disease challenges, supporting innovative work to the clinic and beyond with clinical biomarker processing.
